Experience
2012 — 2013 · The design years — I started with type, layout, and the very particular satisfaction of getting a printed piece back from the press. Learning to look carefully came before learning to code.
2013 — 2016 · Small Hours — A small independent practice: identities for local businesses, editorial layouts, and websites that were becoming increasingly difficult to leave to somebody else.
2016 — 2017 · Learning by building — I moved from designing interfaces to making them work. Small systems projects and graphics experiments taught me to care about what happens underneath the surface.
2017 — 2018 · North Studio — My first development role was in a small studio where design and engineering sat at the same table. I built the interfaces, then stayed to make the last ten per cent feel right.
2018 — 2020 · Common Ground — Campaigns, brand sites, and interactive experiences. This is where animation became part of the way I solve a problem, rather than something added at the end.
2020 — present · Going independent — I became independent to work closer to the whole project: the question, the design, and the build. Since then the work has ranged from small cultural sites to complex product interfaces.
2024 — present · Papertrail — Building the editing experience for a browser-based print studio. A careful balance of creative freedom and the very real constraints of a physical product.
2026 · Ledger — A quoting and invoicing tool for people who make things. Built from the small frustrations of running an independent practice.
2026 · Outline — An artist’s commission should not live across six different inboxes. Outline brings the brief, references, and appointment into one place.
2026 · Rep Club — A strength training log designed for the minutes between sets. Clear defaults, quick inputs, and no social feed.
2026 — ongoing · Together — An ongoing exploration of how shared calendars can reduce the coordination work of everyday family life.
2025 — present · Helix Labs — Designing a front-end around the real movement of laboratory samples. Clear states, traceable decisions, and a component system the team can rely on.
London · remote · 2026 · What comes next? — I join teams to improve existing products or help build something new. I am most useful when design decisions and technical decisions need to happen together.
